"We do not climb mountains, traipse to polar ice caps, split atoms, or unravel genomes simply because "they are there" but because we know that it is within the unanticipated fruits of exploration that our improved survival lies" (Kevin Fong, p. 28).
In Extreme Medicine, Dr. Fong introduces the catalysts of modern day medicine. With carefully minted words on 257 pages, Fong presents various medical cases to a technical and non-technical audience in a very engaging manner. An amazing read! Fong is a great storyteller.

Students in the Spring 2016 Intercultural Communication class at the University of Dubuque raised $706.50 for Empower Nepali Girls (http://www.empowernepaligirls.org). They exceeded their goal of $340 to help two Nepali girls attend school for a year. Many thanks to the University of Dubuque Community and the patrons of The Smokestack on 62 E 7th St, Dubuque, Iowa 52001. A special thank you to Keri Schwanekamp for her remarkable leadership, and a big thank you to the owners of The Smokestack (Scott Cornwell & Susan Price) & Susan's Father for their generous donation and hospitality during the fundraiser. Great atmosphere at The Smokestack! Excellent service(www.smokestackdbq.com/). Proud of my students.
Many thanks to Prof. Sara Safari (http://www.sarasafari.com/) for sharing her amazing story with my class and providing this opportunity for students. *Photo (Screen Shot) from: www.facebook.com/events/1743257739325421/ |
